Some things still need to be written down.

To be honest, I dislike people showing off their good deeds online every day. But if you do not record them, nobody remembers them later, and when you really need proof, you have no evidence to offer. Now I understand: as well as being a good person, you need someone to remember you.During the pandemic lockdown, a neighbor urgently needed medical care, but the neighborhood coordinator and community staff adamantly refused to let him leave the residential compound. Even more than a hundred people gathering at the gate to speak up for him made no difference. In desperation, I drove my car through the water-filled traffic barriers and the entrance gate. The car was badly wrecked, but at last he could get out to see a doctor. I also parked the car at the entrance and cursed out the community police officer, the neighborhood coordinator, and the others.Later, the Qinduankou Police Station summoned me several times, but I never went. I thought that if I kept putting it off, they would probably really come to arrest me. By coincidence, in those very days, everything suddenly opened up and the testing and lockdowns were gone. One moment everything was tightly controlled; the next, nothing was controlled at all. Nothing further came of my case either. At the time, I was not thinking of doing anything remarkable. I simply felt that someone who was ill had to see a doctor first; everything else was secondary. The neighbor who needed medical care and what later happened to me slowly became connected in my memory. They made me care more and more about a simple question: when an ordinary person faces a hardship they cannot overcome, whom can they ask for help, and will anyone respond?
