On education, personal qualities, and social status
On this page
First, I want to say: do not worry about people who treat your level of education as a measure of your ability. I reject that completely. I do not have much formal education myself. As far as I know, the way our generation was educated has barely changed in nearly a century. How can such an ineffectual system produce outstanding people?
I, Wen Gan, do not support dropping out of school. Staying in school and studying diligently is a very good path for children who do not have much drive. Education can give you stable work and a stable life.
Personal qualities and the accumulation of knowledge do not necessarily have to come from what various ineffectual schools drill into you. You can also acquire more knowledge and ideas on your own, through libraries, the internet, and so on.
Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Lawrence Ellison, and Steve Jobs are all outstanding people, and none received particularly extensive higher education. You could say that their ability to stand on their own owed much to the choices they made.
I have not felt much like writing lately, so I will stop here for today. I want to speak up for the many people who dropped out. School is not your only option. Do not regret leaving school, and do not study simply to repay anyone. As long as you have a flexible mind, whether or not you have technical skills, there is a place for you. Of course, it may be a little harder; that is all.
Do not think this is just a fool's dream. Look at Jack Ma: someone outside the IT industry working in e-commerce. Jack Ma does not even understand HTML.
The world belongs to young people. Take your ideas and fly.
